Here are some of the most notable adaptations announced in November 2022.
- Mandeville Films has tapped Emily Carmichael and Shantha Susman to script the adaptation of Naomi Novak’s A Deadly Education. Meera Menon will direct. Del Rey published the novel in September 2020.
- Cartel Entertainment, Screen Media Ventures, and Foresight Unlimited will adapt Bob Rich’s novel Looking Through Water. Rowdy Herrington is set to pen the screenplay, and Howard Deutch will direct. Michael Douglas and Cameron Douglas will star. Skyhorse Publishing published the novel in November 2015.
- 3dot productions and Made Up Stories has acquired Susanna Hoffs’ upcoming novel The Bird Has Flown, which Little, Brown and Company will publish in this coming April.
- Writers David Lee Miller and Steven Jay Rubin will script the animated adaptation of their children’s book The Cat Who Lived with Anne Frank for Regenerate Films. Rubin will executive produce, and Miller will co-direct with Brandon Oldenburg. The book, which featured illustrations by Elizabeth Baddeley, was published in 2019 by Philomel.
- Disney has tapped Aadrita Mukerji to script the third film in the Princess Diaries franchise. The original film was based on the Meg Cabot novel, which Harper Trophy published in 2000.
- Kristen Stewart will write and direct the adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s The Chronology of Water for Scott Free Productions. Imogen Potts will star. The memoir was first published by Hawthorne Books in 2011.
- Productivity Media, Factual Fiction, and Wind Sun Sky Entertainment will adapt Shane Peacock’s The Boy Sherlock Holmes series of YA novels. Matthew Cirulnick will write the screenplay. The series was published by Tundra Books, starting with Eye of the Crow in 2007.
- New Line Cinema and Panoramic Media have acquired the rights to Cathy Free’s 2021 Washington Post article “Three Women Discovered They Were Dating the Same Man. They Dumped Him and Went on a Months-Long Road Trip Together.”
